Description
A set of 12 very early 19th Century, circa 1800, English Sheraton chairs consisting of two arm chairs and ten side chairs.
All 12 chairs feature mahogany frames, crest rain with canted corners. Three carved columns form the back with inlay of acanthus leaves, tapered legs with bellflower inlay. Upholstered in striped velvet and satin fabric. Very good condition, some wears and stains.
The current owner’s family acquired this excellent set of dining chairs in 1952 from Parke-Bernet Galleries in New York City. These particular chairs were featured in Parke-Burnet’s “Fine English Furniture” auction catalog, and was previously owned by a private collector in New Jersey. Parke-Bernet itself was later majority acquired by Sotheby’s in the mid 1960’s.
