The original Federal style lasted a relatively short period of time from around 1780 to 1820, but has remained popular throughout American history even to the present day. In fact, does this style look familiar? You might recognize it from photos of the Oval Office, perhaps the most famous Federal-styled room in the world.
One of the remarkable qualities about this Federal style sofa is that it will look great in many decors and settings. It’s sure to bring a timeless American and historical accent to any room.
This particular sofa is a late 19th Century or early 20th Century reproduction, featuring a solid mahogany curved frame in excellent condition. The upholstery is also quite fine, but if you choose it could be recovered without having to rebuild the sofa’s foundation. For example, you could add a damask or tapestry fabric in wool, cotton or silk fabric. You could go with pastel colors, or you might also consider deep blues or vibrant reds to make a more pointed statement.
This is a great sofa today, and undoubtedly will retain its appeal into the future as well.
